Restoring Our Land

Join us in revitalizing Ghana's cocoa belt.

About Didigreens

DiDi GREEN is a Ghana-based NGO that restores degraded and illegally mined land in Obuasi. We work with local communities to turn mined scars into tree-rich agroforestry plots and protected riparian buffers—backed by nurseries, BSF-frass soil recovery, and 24–36 months of maintenance so trees survive, not just get planted.

Local Impact

DiDi Greens NGO has supplied 3,400 bags of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) frass to local cocoa farmers to help cut input costs while building healthier soils. Produced from upcycled organic residues, BSF frass delivers a balanced, slow-release nutrient profile with beneficial microbes that improve soil structure and water retention. By replacing a portion of expensive synthetic fertilisers with frass, farmers can reduce cash outlays for inputs, buffer against price volatility, and maintain steady nutrition for cocoa trees throughout the season.

Beyond distribution, DiDi Greens provides basic training on application and timing—from nursery top-dressing to light side-dressing at the onset of rains—so farmers get the most value from every bag. The program prioritises smallholders across the Ghana Cocoa Belt, supporting regenerative practices that protect groundwater, reduce nutrient losses, and enhance long-term productivity. In short: more resilient farms, lower fertiliser bills, and a practical path toward climate-smart cocoa.

Services

Empowering communities through sustainable practices.

Soil health & circular organics

  • BSF Bioconversion Units – Set-up/operation that turns local organic waste into protein and frass (compost).

  • Frass/Compost Application Programmes – Calibrated t/ha rates, field application, mulching, and moisture management to rebuild soil organic matter and water retention.

Community stewardship & protection

  • Youth Steward Network – Recruit, train, and equip local youth (phones, data, stipends) to report illegal mining and support watering, weeding, and survival checks.

  • Community Engagement & By-laws – Facilitation with chiefs/assemblies/landholders to secure site tenure, maintenance roles, and protection of restored areas.

Core restoration & livelihoods

  • Site Rehabilitation & Berming – Regrading, clean raised berms, mulch and water-harvesting to stabilise degraded/mined land and cut erosion.

  • Agroforestry Establishment – Design and planting of grafted avocado interplanted with suited native/cocoa-companion species; dry-season care and replanting.

  • Nursery Production & Tree Supply – Propagation, grafting, hardening-off, and delivery of quality seedlings with planting guides.
